Google September 29 Event Rumor Roundup:
Starting of with Android Marshmallow 6.0
First things First, Google is gonna grace us with the release date of the latest version of Android, Android Marshmallow 6.0. So, Back in May at Google I/O 2015, they announced it and since then the developer previews exclusively for the nexus devices have been in the line. Rumors are pointing to an October 5 launch for OTA updates, but Google may make the image files available earlier for those who want to flash their phone manually.
Next up We’ll discuss the highlight of the event, the nexus devices!
So Google is gonna be launching two Nexus Devices this Year, the LG Nexus 5X and the Huawei Nexus 6P. And Gosh, there have been so many leaks of the smartphones. It’s like we know the smartphone, but we don’t know it yet. I Mean we have all the leaks, but, the phones aren’t official.
The Nexus 5X and 6P will be 5.2- and 5.7-inches, respectively. The smaller Nexus 5X will be manufactured by LG and feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera, while the Nexus 6P will be made by Huawei and come packed with 3GB of RAM and an AMOLED QuadHD display.
Over the weekend, a presentation about the Nexus 6P for retail salespeople leaked out, and if genuine, it spells out most of the phone’s details. It will have a Snapdragon 810 processor and come in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage sizes. The camera features 1.55 micron pixels (larger than you find in most phone camera sensors), and an f/2.0 lens aperture. Perhaps best of all, the all-metal body houses a sizable 3450mAh battery. Rumor has it, the phones will be available to pre-order immediately on the 29th, with the Nexus 6P coming in at $499 and the Nexus 5X a more affordable $379. We don’t know when they’ll actually ship, yet. Regardless, both phones will run Android Marshmallow right out of the box and come with USB Type-C ports. The Nexus 5X and 6P will also offer a fingerprint sensor, which falls in line with Android 6.0 Marshmallow’s new security features.
The Nexus 5 from 2013, Nexus 6, and even the Nexus 7 tablet all feature wireless charging, something that’s also in all of Samsung’s latest smartphones. Even the LG G3 from last year had wireless charging.
All the promotional material this afternoon suggests that neither the Nexus 5X or the Nexus 6P will have wireless charging.
At the same time, Google had to make a few cutbacks to keep the price down while delivering things like a fingerprint scanner and front-facing speakers at the same time.
These will be the first Nexus smartphones in two years that won’t have wireless charging. On the flipside, they feature Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology, and USB Type-C ports for faster and reversible charging cords. Quick Charge lets them charge up to 60% faster than older devices from just a few years ago. Allowing them to go from 0-50% in less than 30 minutes.
Colors:
The Nexus 6P will come in white, black, silver, and gold. We have no idea if those color options will extend to the Nexus 5X, though.
Also, the phones will also have a black strip on top of the camera.
Cameras:
Unfortunately, the rumors have been slim on the camera sensors contained in each Nexus device. We hear the Nexus 5X and 6P will each have a 12-megapixel and 21-megapixel rear-facing cameras, but megapixels alone do not a great camera make.
An Android tablet, but not a Nexus
Android Police caught wind of a rumor that says Google is preparing a new tablet, but instead of marketing it under the Nexus name, it will carry the Pixel brand. The Pixel chromebooks run Chrome OS, while this supposed Pixel tablet would run Android. It's said to be a 10.2-inch high-res tablet with a Tegra X1 processor and 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM, with a design said to mimic the clean, metallic look of the Chromebook Pixel laptop. It's not expected to ship for another month or two, but it might make an appearance at Google's event.
So, all of this, and a New Chromecast too?
We’ve been talking so much about the rumored Nexus smartphones that we almost forgot about the second-generation Chromecast that’s rumored to show up. It’s about time for an update—the first-generation Chromecast launched almost two years ago.
The Chromecast might have a new, hockey puck-shaped design, as well as bolstered Wi-Fi connectivity and support for content feeds to be embedded in the Home screen. There will also be a second device called Chromecast Audio, which lets you stream audio to a set of Wi-Fi-enabled speakers in your home. We might also see a revamped Nexus Player to replace last year’s slightly-uninspiring gaming-centric set-top box.
